“Changes are on the WAY” (05.01.14)
Are you prepared for the 'new' E-Rate Program?
Hopefully (by this time) most of you know that the FCC is currently spearheading a massive reform effort specifically addressing the Schools and Libraries Division of the Universal Service Fund - you know it as the E-Rate Program.
This reform began back in July 2013 and is likely to result in a completely different program than what we've all become accustomed to for the last 17 or 18 years.
FCC Chairman Wheeler has said in no uncertain terms that the E-Rate Program should no longer support 'antiquated' technologies or products and/or services that are not specifically related to the delivery of high-speed, high-capacity wireless Internet access to the classroom.
What does this mean for you?
Since CSM will be attending a workshop at the FCC regarding this exact issue next week, we’d like to invite you all to join us for a webinar on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 beginning at 11:00am Pacific Time to discuss what we learn from the FCC next week. We expect the webinar to last approximately one hour and we hope very much that it is an interactive experience. We will explain some of the potential ramifications and answer your questions so that you can be prepared to discuss these prospective changes with your senior administration.
Please look for an invitation from me that will include the URL to join the webinar in a separate email that will soon follow this one.
Mark your calendar for May 13, 2014 to participate in this important discussion. Don't let these changes sneak up on you!
If you have any questions or concerns about your specific situation, please contact your CSM Consultants right away!
As always, we welcome your feedback and comments and if you have an idea for an alert or some other topic of discussion, be sure to pass it along to your dedicated CSM Team.
